The influence of flood regimes, vegetative and geomorphic structures on the links between aquatic and terrestrial systems: applications to restoration and watershed monitoring strategies
The Cosumnes River provides an unprecedented opportunity to examine the influence of natural flood regimes on the likages between aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems in a scientific manner. The results of Cosumnes River restoration management, through the purposeful breaching of river levees, has had a tremendous short-term effect on the vegetative and geomorphic structures present on the floodplain. Here we detail our findings from examining a number of interrelated ecosystem components that interact around and within the Cosumnes River Experimental Floodplain.
